Hey Cyrus Don't Quit Your Day Job, Whatever That Is!
Freedom of expression should be left to those Artist who are not of the demented kind. I receive e-mails from an art magazine I subscribed to through my artist marketing book. In today's newletter It seems the once teenage idol (a laugh now) is trying her hand in sculpting. "Help us all!" All sexual depictions of her self indulgent. She doesn't want to be thought of as stupid? Really,...Hey Caption Obvious there's a new recruit for a reality check
She keeps this up, she may take up room and board in the rubber room (no pun intended) Although she may enjoy that. I get weary of those like her, who abuse talent to turn a profit in these ways, when there is so much good to do with the popularity they have, to benefit others , oh well. Sex may sell for her but as for me, I am glad I'm a purest. Conveying thoughts through artwork that inspire the intellectual heights of beauty, that nurture the soul and explain the complexity of the culture I experienced . Thank all my art instructors for the imprint of class they gave me!
I would display an example of her work but it is explicit for my blog, besides I wouldn't trash it with her stuff anyway. So I am sharing my artwork that emulates strength, beauty and intelligence!

My Art On Sweatshirts and T-Shirts
I had been doing this for a long time. It seemed to have gone out when designs were transferred by Iron-On Paper a person can use to print off f the computer. Anymore, it is less expensive and less time consuming. I did this for my late father-in-law Gary, many years ago. I will have to add this to my portfolio.
I got some pottery clay to experiment with now when I get up to feeling like it.

Remembering My Grandpa William E. Havens
He always went by Bill. youngest out of five children, my grandpa had to leave his junior year at Willis High School to help his dad with the farm. My grandpa became a second father to my dad and the only grandpa to the four of us kids. He was a modest man who loved to sail, fish and farm. He was an Electrician by trade, working for the local telephone company. It will be twenty seven years ago today June 28, 1987, that he left us, passing away too soon at the age of 72.
He truly was one of a kind and I miss him. I did a piece of artwork back in the summer of 2006 ,remembering him on the farm with the barn he and his father built in the background. My one and only grandpa!

Where My Dad Worked When I Was A Little Girl...
You could say my dad has done so much in his lifetime. He often speaks about his days at "Humphries" in Delaware, Ohio. Although he has worked as a "Chief Of Police" in Sunbury, Ohio and on The Ohio State Highway Patrol, his days as a Mechanic has been the fullest.
Music, wood working and painting have always been his hobbies but he is good at them too.
Recently, a lady posted this on "You Know You Are From Delaware When" picture of the car dealership. It first was at this place on the corner of Central Ave before it was moved out on U.S 23. I am proud of all my dad has done. I guess it shows...

Sunday Marked The Birthday Of The Church
Some of my favorite buildings to paint are the old churches, I love them because they represent a time when life on Sunday was innocent. "Family Time" meant something special. Those are the best memories of all! Happy Birthday To God's House!

" One Beautiful Couple"
Designing portraits is one of my favorite art projects of all. I have been working on a portrait ideal for Schizz and his family of his parents. I like how he entitled the photo he blogged "One Beautiful Couple" It is very appropriate . It took me a while to figure out where the picture was taken. It was in of course in 1946 and photographed inside a car. I thought about making the illustration of their wedding photograph and their latest pictures together. Somewhat what I did for my parents.
It feels sorta awkward without Schizz to help me design it. I like approval before beginning any project, even when I begin, to make sure that is what is expected. Being over six hundred miles apart. It is very difficult . One day it would be so very wonderful to see him. I guess him coming here to confirm any feelings, any invite or communication would help my family believe that Schizz would really want me to see him , otherwise to them, I would be bothering him and I don't want to do that. I have too much respect and love for Schizz and my folks, so I'll just wait until he comes to see me and I will feel better going to Massachusetts.
Sounds a little simple, but its the little things that mean so much! So Schizz, I'd feel better if we were working on your parents picture together. The door is always open here, I truly care about you and your family. Love you so!

After Sixteen Years It's About Time!
My late husband's brother and his girlfriend are finally getting married tomorrow after knowing each other and sharing a daughter together..gosh, sixteen years..waited long enough? I do hope they have a wonderful life together in Tennessee. Their daughter is in between my son's age and daughter's age and played together when my husband was alive. Seems so very long ago.
His fiance seems very nice and can keep him on a leash (Ha-Ha). Those who have known him, know that he'd have to be on a leash or a cage. I'm just kidding, he really has changed for the better.
My best to them and I hope the weather will be ok, seeing that we are in for some bad storms.
Congrats to the happy couple!

Looking At Galleries
Still, so much work to do..I finished sending out e-mail submissions to Greeting Card Companies looking for artists. Today I poured through just a forth of a list of Art Galleries. Too few local. re-writing Query letters, bios and such. I feel so overwhelmed and have to start slowly, boy do I feel like a rusty hinge. I have three more books to go over. Anyway, my artwork is piling up that I need to photograph, its amazing how much written material I need to read just to do things legally for illustrators/ artists like myself and potential clients(commissioned work for businesses) but its the right way, just wish I was a little smarter to grasp all of it.
For any other artist, I do recommend the books "Artist's & Graphic Designer's Market, How to sell" , "Business and Legal Forms For Illustrators" by Crawford, "Legal Guide For The Visual Artist" by Crawford and " Pricing & Ethical Guidelines for Graphic Artist Guild Handbook". These are very helpful!

Vacations.
I have been getting vacation booklets through AAA since I have been a member since 2007. Planning vacations and actually doing them are two separate things for me. Being on a budget limits when and where you get to go. Today I took my daughter and her friend to Delaware beach. Back in the seventies growing up in Delaware, Ohio there weren't too many things to do during the summer other than going to Delaware Beach, that was a treat for the four of us kids when grandpa took us swimming there followed by a vanilla ice cream cone. We got two when Alum Creek made another beach in the early 80's.
I always wanted to go see the East Coast and summer would be perfect, although its pretty busy there during this time of the year because of the enormity of the beaches. The main reason I never went was I had nobody there I knew and no one who would go with me. Well, I know somebody there I really trust and care about, the problem is, I feel kinda uninvited and intruding where I shouldn't. My dad felt I should just stay put. I know it sounds strange, but I feel that its a best. Maybe one day I will be welcomed. I have cried so much, just feeling bad about myself. I am a gentle woman who likes to keep peace and express respect and love for everyone. I wish I could see him again and maybe he could figure something out. Until then I have to rely on memory and be happy until one day when I will hear from him again and see him one day. Ohio will have to keep me a little while longer. I would call too but the same applies to it too, I think of Steely Dan's song. My love to Everyone in Amesbury and Boston, Ma, Love and Prayers Always.

My Art Portfolio (Revised June 6, 2014)
Adding more to my Art Portfolio. Please be patient as I prepare it. It may take several tries but I hope you always enjoy it.
This one I added, is very special, I did this portrait of all the dogs we had since we were little to give to my sister on Christmas on year, I matted and framed the work as well. It still hangs in my old bedroom. My mom thought of this project.

When Does An Artist Calls It Quits...
For many artist, they go through a period "Unproductive". After my husband's death, it seems like I hit a spell. Then I found inspiration when I thought I had a chance with a new life, like I was taking a new breath. With everything that has happened this last year and believing in something I thought was real, turned out it really didn't want me, well this time.. I hadn't the strength anymore to go on with my art. I don't know if I ever will again, so I will say that I enjoyed my talent because I truly was blessed with what the Lord had given and I am glad I made people happy, that was what it was all about...Thank You So Much, Love Always,

I wish the soundtrack was down loadable, it is an amazing soundtrack. It takes you back into that period of time. If you ever get a chance to see this Real life Outdoor Drama and you have never seen it, it is worth the trip to the southern part of Ohio in The Sugarloaf Mountains.

Floral Design!
My dad got me started on making floral arrangements when I was a teenager. At that time I would go out and pick flowers to put on mom's table. Many times just to surprise her. When I was younger, my sisters and brother would wake up early, set the morning table with her favorite coffee cup and breakfast treat. I usually went out and gathered Lilacs from grandma's tree. I really treasure those memories!
Today, I got to talk to mom as she called and wished me a "Happy Mother's Day and I the same for her. I really enjoyed returning the favor. I have kinda gotten away from Floral Design as I had been burned out on it but I still design for the family and my house.
Who can be sad when they look at the colors of flowers or even the fragrance of them.
My love to all of you on this glorious mother's day!

The Pontiac Fire Bird!
I don't know what year Schizz's Pontiac Fire Bird was, but I did find some pictures of the car that were from the seventies. I am not positive I hit the year, but I hope it brings back memories for him. I often hear my dad say "If only I kept those cars today".
Isn't that the truth, that would have been real neat, but like everything. Life just doesn't work out that way. I hope this brings you a smile Schizz, Love You So Much!

What Is A Gremlin?
Ok, my dear Schizz, Thinking about what you wrote about how you called your car a nick name (Gremlin) Libido. It has been bugging me since. So I decided to have my computer work for me, I typed in on my search engine...What is a Gremlin?
It gave me a definition Grem-lin..An imaginary mischievous sprite regarded as responsible for an unexplained problem, especially a mechanical or electronic one...
Hmmm, well that didn't help, although, it explains the car to a T...it fits, considering it made the top 50 worse cars of all time
I would re-evaluate the nick name Libido for a Gremlin, gosh it sounds more like an insult when you think of the definition. If you think of the characters in the movie "Gremlin". That would be dangerous because you couldn't feed them after midnight or get them wet...that just sounds so wrong!
I guess you can call me mischievous when writing this. Honestly, dear, I would rather you would had called your firebird libido, it would be more logical...I think.
I remember in art class we were given a work of art and analyze its meaning. Depending on a car's power, one might argue, its all in the eye's of the driver. Still, your Fire bird would have done circles around the Gremlin, hands down. Fuel economy, well, I suppose the gremlin had that and a lady might wonder if that refers to your Gremlin car's nickname "Libido". It would be a compliment.
So, I think I found the answer to the question "Why you called your Gremlin ,Libido?" I guess "Economy" describes it and that is enough said.
Still I have to tease you one way or another, don't ever change, you're cute just the way you are!
My son calls this Gremlin a "Starsky and Hutch" want a be.

Beautiful Designed Dresses
Back in the thirties and forties, do you remember the films of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers? Those beautiful ball gowns she wore.
I love those classic ball gown designs. I think one reason is that they are feminine and delicate. We have kinda wondered away from some of those designs because of our culture of today. Just last week when the school had there prom, some of the girls were wearing the full length dresses instead of the short-reveal all dresses that had dominated most of the past few years.
Now a days dressing -up is a rare thing as we are more casual in dinning and dancing. Ball room dancing is really a thing of the past
When I would draw pictures, I only use my memory of those dresses of yest er-year. Sometimes, I'll leaf through dress pattern books to get ideals.
I am too old for some of the designs of today, so classic dresses are more my "Design" even if the are just below the knee, tea-length or full length.
Check this last one out, the used "Time OF My Life" with some of the clips, that is so neat!

W.D.L.R, Delaware,Ohio
I can recall growing up in Delaware, Ohio, most people would look at me funny when I would tell them I was from Delaware. '"You mean the state?" they would ask..."No, Delaware, Ohio."
Delaware wasn't as known as is is today as part of Columbus. When I was a girl you would describe it to people 'Just north of Columbus". In The Georgetowne Shopping Center across from Grady Hospital, there used to be Buehlers, Sunshine Cleaners, Cherry Tree gift shop, Baskin Robbins and Ben Franklin Store. Ben Franklin was kinda like the five and dime store, only they carried clothing and crafts. Summer was an awesome time to visit the shopping center, hot outside, air conditioned inside. T-shirts were plentiful, many times mom bought shirts for us there. There was one in particular I remember because it described how everyone in Delaware held from outsiders in town. In all colors of t-shirts, black letters would go across the front, just like this...whereinhellisdelaware?
Believe it or not, Delaware, Ohio had its own radio station, that's right W.D.L.R. Growing up, it was a pop music station on the A.M frequency. Most of the time however, it was mainly talk and when I would listen to it or any of the rest of us were for two reasons in the seventies and eighties:
One: For local information concerning Olentangy School School delays or closings
and
Two: TRADIO, yes trade-io. It was a chance for local residents to trade or sale things. Mom was on it a few times and I remember how excited we were to hear mom on the radio. She got up on the air a couple times to sale our old appliances.
Even though back in those days many people didn't even know where Delaware was, we had a radio station. I am not real sure if its around anymore, the last I knew, it was a country music station, now I think its all talk.
As it is, I have fond memories of our dear old radio station in Delaware, Ohio. so here's to W.D.L.R!

Sexy Songs?
Did you ever notice that over the decades there have been songs that have been written to exclaim how sexy the singer is...I got thinking about this and chuckle to myself. Then there are songs that describe how they feel sexy, in other words, how they are going to seduce, or how a feeling overcomes them...ok well here are the ones that I am talking about (Ha-Ha) Now this can be described as The Art Of Being Sexy.
This Is Disturbing ..O.M.Gosh ! ! !

Movies Based On True Events, That I remember....
Recently, I got a movie at Walmart for 5 bucks. Most of the time, they are the older films that one may have watched dozens of times over the years. I happened across UNSTOPPABLE, about the runaway train starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. I remember when this event took place and seeing the footage on the news of the two men who stopped it. Some of the footage is in the film. Its a fast moving film and a good one. Its one that just makes you feel good inside. So if you haven't seen the film because it may not sound good to ya, believe me its a good film based on true events. I have listed a few other true event films I grew up on, that I have really enjoyed. Hope you enjoy too!

W.R.F.D AM Worthington, Ohio
I know as an artist, one of my favorite thing is to draw or paint with music. Growing up we kids listened to rock/pop/soul music. Must of the time it was W.N.C.I, of QFM.96 Columbus. On the AM stations it was 610W.T.V.N. or W.C.O.L. or The Delaware, Ohio Station. Sometimes if we wanted to relax, we choose the station my grandparents used on FM W.B.N.S. Classical it was W.O.S.U.
Even though we listened to easy listening, rock in the car when mom would drive, dad was never shy about listening to his country music. Sometimes he would listen to our music Only if it was easy listening.
I remember how "Cool" it was to listen to the F.M Frequency, AM got to be you know "Lame" after while, must of the time it was all-talk or became all-talk. So must of my years growing up it went from AM to all FM on the radio dial. It wasn't until 1981, that I was making a " run around" on the dial that I switched it to AM, just out of boredom that came across a Contemporary Christian Music Station , W.R.F.D. It was and still is a Crystal Clear frequency. It caught my attention and I feel in love with the music. Christian music seemed new to me then, even though it ha been around several years before that.
I had always loved singing the old Hymns in church, but that was mainly the only time you heard the Hymns was at church. Since I started listening to W.R.F.D, I made several tapes of songs from the station, songs that almost all my family knew or became to know. For Christmas and graduation, my sister would get me an album from one of the artist. Whiteheart, 2nd Chapter Of Acts, Michael. W. Smith, Sandi Patti , Harvest and Larnelle Harris. I was surprised that even some music artist that I grew up with on the pop, rock charts, crossed over to record Christian music Elvis Presley, Debbie Boone and B.J Thomas. Even in Country Music, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Red Folely, Charlie Daniels and Lulu Roman Smith ( Hee-Haw).
On the F.M station, I started to listen to W.C.R.F and now 104.9 The River, but I still hold fond memories of the station that gave me a great love for Christian Music and started down a deeper path of love and appreciation for Christ. W.R.F.D, AM WORTHINGTON, OHIO.

Going Back To What We Sang In Choir, How I Miss Those Days!
This really takes me back to those days, I sang in The Christian Alliance Choir after I was married. Since my husband's death, I haven't sang in the choir again. I love to hear my daughter perform at my old school. Well, I should say anywhere she sings!

'Texture"
Every artist like myself loves to create a work of art that looks "Real" so real that it can jump right off of the canvas. Texture is used to create this effect.
In pencil, this can be done by presenting a pattern of value, light to dark or flash of highlight itself. The consistent stroke of the pencil, such as to render a subject's hair, for instance, fur on an animal or surface of an object , wood sand..etc..
In paints, all the above can be used BUT a painter will also apply various thickness of the medium. Painting knives are excellent for this.
In clay, grooves cut into the soft resin, makes lines and deep grooves either stationary or on a potter's wheel.
In wood working, much like clay, it can be cut or chiseled, only the artist will sand the wood to a silky finish . Stains bring out the wood's natural beauty thus completing the fished product.
All this says that in the end of each process, the work is more lovely and appreciated.
I got thinking about "Texture" quote on quote while resting to battle off this flu. The only real difference between Wood, clay and paint verses pencil is simply "Feel or Touch". Thinking about it, a person can feel or touch wood , clay or even the strokes of paint on the canvas. "Smell or Fragrance" can as well be used for the same three, oil paints, especially have a distinct odor, wood being cut or sanding, has a almost spicy sweet fragrance and well clay..is earth. Pencil is one of the most limited I guess out of all of the forms of art.
Pencil, however is my favorite because, unlike wood, clay and paint, which starts out as form. Pencil has to work to create form out of nothingness...that is an awesome thought.
Aside from that and back on the subject of "Feel" as living, breathing beings this is the focus of who we are.
I think of how the sensations we encounter in our everyday lives, that we may take for granted.
For instance, after spending all day on our feet, how good it feels, just to take off our shoes and feel the carpeting as we walk in our homes, or maybe even walking through the grass on a warm summer day in our bare feet.
My favorite, going to the beach and taking off your shoes to enjoy the warm crystal sand against your feet, its almost a pity to get into the water. How about when you are tired and a nice hot shower just sounds good to you. That first wave of soothing water hits and you close your eyes, just taking in those few moments of pleasure.
Above all these, I think the most I miss is being held by a man for comfort, or even holding him for his comfort. Touch is an amazing thing, somehow, no matter how the day goes, all worries and hurts just go away and it is made right again.
If an artist can covey all of " Texture", then he or she has done their job. After all artist can go by memory and how that memory felt. Just experiencing the joy that I give to others by those savored moments in my life, not only adds the "Feel' but adds "Texture" not only for myself, which is a mute point but to the ones I create for. That is where the true beauty lies.
